Karrie Sadler

Karrie was a K-6 classroom teacher for 20 years before beginning her work an an education consultant. As a consultant, Karrie currently provides professional development opportunities for teachers (Pre-K-Grade 12), coaches, administrators, and support staff in implementing balanced literacy in their districts and schools, and in strengthening their inclusive education practices.  

She also consults with districts as they develop and implement literacy curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards. In addition, Karrie worked with various districts in the implementation of a district wide teacher evaluation tool. This included providing feedback and professional development opportunities to teachers during post observation meetings, leading teachers in lesson study groups aligned with the evaluation tool and facilitating administrators as they worked to align their teacher evaluation tool with the CCSS. 

 Karrie has an extensive background and experience in implementing Teachers College reading and writing workshops, curriculum writing across grade levels, reading and writing units of study, lesson design, and assessment. She has worked with teachers to strengthen their content knowledge, particularly their understanding of genre features and text complexity, in order to provide specific, differentiated feedback to the readers in their classrooms. She has a background in RTI, particularly in designing and implementing a school literacy intervention program and in supporting teachers with strategies for servicing readers at all levels of reading.  

In addition, for over ten years, she has trained teachers, admistrators, paraprofessionals, parents, and school psychologists across several states in Responsive Classroom Consulting Teacher.

 

In 2012, Karrie was awarded Teacher of the Year in Westport, Connecticut.
