Let's chat first about what in interactive read aloud is:
It's an instructional method that provides a model for reading and thinking about texts (structure, story elements, vocabulary, and author’s craft and purpose). IRA provides a scaffold for students as they observe the teacher modeling proficient reading and thinking, and prompting students to think and talk at.
What is the purpose of IRA?
To preview reading skills highlighted in the unit or bend/part of the unit
To provide a model for how to think at various parts of the text
To support students as they apply the strategy with peers
To scaffold from heavy support to less support
